In an area of 63.853 square km, Pereiras – Gare was “born” in 1985. After travelling through the Brejão Mountains we rapidly discover the characteristics of the Baixo Alentejo region.
In an organized geometric construction, the white buildings marked by strong colours such as blue, quickly transport us into the Alentejo way of living spirit, where houses designed and ordered in straight lines are a very characteristic mark in this Portuguese region. The new church that gain life with the help of the 373 inhabitants of the village, brings every year, on the 3rd Saturday of July, the religious celebrations, dedicated to the "Nossa Senhora da Graça" (Lady of Grace).
Another curiosity about this little village, is its Train Station that in the past was fulfilled with activity. Nowadays there's only two trains stopping there…one at 07:00H and the otherin the afternoon, at 16:00H. Another curiosity, also related with trains, is the ancient bridge of Mouratos. This bridge is the highest railway bridge in Southern Portugal . Pereiras- Gare has also two other points of interest: "Fontes Novas da Cumeada" and the "Moinhos do Foz do Vale.
